2021 NRG Excellence in Energy Awards

The winning candidate will:

  • Go above and beyond standard sustainability practices to achieve notable environmental and/or social benefits.
  • Reflect a significant change in their environmental impact and include provisions for ongoing monitoring, measuring, and optimization.
  • Share other projects that focus on sustainability.
  • Achieve notable and sustained environmental and/or social benefits.

Energy Efficiency

Implementing energy efficient solutions frees up the grid and creates opportunities for others to attain reliable and dependable energy.

The winning candidate will:

  • Institute upgrades that result in energy savings and capital improvements.
  • Show savings associated with new technology at the maximum technical potential and at the estimated achievable potential.
  • Report expenditures or energy savings over a specific period.
  • Complete an energy audit and achieve benchmark goals.
  • Participate in demand response programs that shift electricity consumption away from peak load times.

Candidates must be mid-market or large business customers with an active electricity or natural gas supply contract with Reliant, NRG Business, or Direct Energy Business. NRG’s Energy Efficiency, Sustainability, and Demand Response customers are also eligible. Note, each customer may submit one nomination for itself per category. A third party nominating may submit only one entry per category on behalf of others. For more details, view our Contest Rules.

Submission window

August 1, 2021 – September 30, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. CT

Selection process

A panel of judges will review the submissions and score the nominees on a scale of zero to ten based on the required essay which should describe the nominee’s success within the stated category. A score of zero means no information or not meeting any criteria; a score a five means meeting half of the criteria, and a score of ten means meeting all criteria in the category. The scores of all the judges will then be totaled.
